The best luxury hotels in Muscat for 2026
Muscat’s five-star hotel scene delivers at a genuinely world-class level – luxurious retreats nestled in the foothills of the Hajar Mountains, sleek marina-front properties minutes from the airport, and grand palaces that once hosted royalty. However, choosing between the luxury hotels in Muscat is harder than it sounds, because each property serves a different type of stay.
Take it from me – I lived in Muscat for two and a half years so had the chance to experience many of these properties firsthand.

This guide draws on that on-the-ground experience to give you something a standard room-rate comparison can’t: honest context. I’ll cover the key neighbourhoods, standout hotels by travel style whether you want somewhere that’s adults-only, family-friendly or on the beach.
But before the good stuff, I’d like to thank you for visiting Oman Wanderlust and also encourage you to join our Facebook group Oman Unpacked. It’s a community to get even more personal recommendations from visitors and expats who love Oman.

Why location shapes the entire stay
Muscat is a sprawling city. Travelling between the airport, marinas, best beaches for holidaymakers, and the historic port can take up to an hour by car, so where you base yourself changes your experience completely.
There are three areas worth understanding before you book any of the luxury hotels in Muscat:
Al Mouj

Al Mouj is a modern marina situated within within a 10 minute drive of Muscat International Airport. The Kempinski Hotel Muscat and St. Regis Al Mouj cluster here, sharing contemporary design, a beautiful promenade and easy airport access.
This is the most convenient base in Muscat if you’re interested in having a variety of high end restaurants and access to boat trips to the Daymaniat Islands on your door step. It’s also largely an expat community so Oman’s conservative dress code is not enforced as strictly as elsewhere in the city, especially on the public beach.
Ghubrah

The urban district of Ghubrah is at the physical centre of Muscat’s waterfront. Away from the bustle of the commercial area is The Chedi. It is the closest luxury hotel to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque as well as being a convenient 20 minute drive from the airport.
Shatti Al Qurum

Shatti Al-Qurum sits closer to the city’s cultural heart. The Mandarin Oriental, W Muscat, and InterContinental are all positioned close to the Royal Opera House and within 15 to 20 minutes of Al Alam Palace, the National Museum, and Muttrah Souq and Corniche to the East, and Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque to the West.
Qantab and Barr Al Jissah

The coastal belt at Qantab and Barr Al Jissah trades convenience for the extraordinary natural drama of seeing the mountains meet the sea. Jumeirah Muscat Bay, Al Bustan Palace, and the Hilton’s trio of hotels at Barr Al Jissah all sitting within this stretch. These are the luxury resorts in Muscat that genuinely feel removed from the city, in the best possible way.
So, if cultural sightseeing is central to your trip, anchor yourself in Shatti Al Qurum or Al Mouj.
If you want the resort to be the destination at the end of a tour of northern Oman, the coast at the South Eastern end of Muscat delivers the seclusion you simply won’t find closer to the city centre.
Luxury hotels on the beach in Muscat
If having direct access to the beach is a must for your stay in Muscat these hotels fit the bill:
The St. Regis Al Mouj Muscat Resort

The St. Regis sits alongside the Al Mouj marina complex and fittingly draws its design inspiration a super yacht aesthetic.
It’s 360-metre private beachfront is complemented by luxurious swimming pools and restaurants. In fact, if you prioritise exceptional dining, the St. Regis is home to both Hakkasan (Cantonese fine dining) and Novikov (European and Asian).
From the hotel it’s easy to take a golf buggy to the marina for even more dining options, a small shopping mall and boat trips.
The Chedi

Just along the coast is The Chedi – one of Muscat’s longstanding luxury hotels that draws design influences from Omani Heritage. Its villa style rooms are nestled among 21-acres of immaculate gardens, water features and palms that lead you to a private beach overlooking The Gulf of Oman.
This an ideal hotel for couples who want the best of both worlds – a private beach holiday that’s a short drive from the airport, shopping malls and restaurants.
Jumeirah Muscat Bay

Tucked between mountains and sea, Jumeirah Muscat Bay is the most intimate property on the coast to the South East of Muscat. With 195 rooms and suites, some featuring private plunge pools and direct pool access, it offers a quieter, more secluded atmosphere than the Al Mouj cluster or the neighbouring Hilton resort.
This makes it perfect for couples and honeymooners who want genuine seclusion without sacrificing quality. However, if you want to venture further than the resort you’ll need a hire car or taxi.
Al Husn Hotel Muscat

This adults only luxury hotel has it all – a private beach, infinity pool overlooking the Gulf of Oman and views of the famous Barr Al Jissah Arch. Treat yourselves to a premier room for extra perks to make your stay truly special including a complimentary mini bar, afternoon tea, and aperitifs hour.
You also have access to the pools, restaurants and beach of the wider Hilton Barr Al Jissha resort.
What about Al Bustan Palace?

Al Bustan Palace has been one of the corner stones of Muscat’s luxury hotel scene for decades, but it’s omission from my recommended Muscat beach hotels is deliberate. In June 2026, Ritz Carlton closed the hotel for a two-year refurbishment.
Come back in 2028 to see it’s facelift.
The best luxury hotels in Muscat for sightseeing
Not every traveller wants to be 25 minutes from the city centre. If you’re combining business with leisure, or you want to explore cultural Muscat without a long car journey, the properties in Shatti Al Qurum offer polished urban luxury with excellent swimming pools.
Mandarin Oriental, Muscat

The Mandarin Oriental in Shatti Al Qurum scores 9.6 out of 10 across major booking platforms, and that rating reflects what guests actually experience.
With 103 rooms and 47 suites, it’s an intentionally intimate property with a considered, quiet design: far more refined elegance than party atmosphere. The hotel has a beautiful pool area and is right on the sea front. While it lacks a private area for guests, the sand is right there for an evening stroll. The Mandarin’s dining, spa, and overall guest experience are exceptional.
This is the top pick for couples who want city access alongside genuine five-star polish.
W Muscat

W Muscat brings bold, design-forward interiors, floor-to-ceiling sea views across 279 rooms, and the liveliest atmosphere of any luxury hotel in this part of the city. Expect pool parties, DJ sets in the roof top Siddharta Lounge by Buddah Bar and Chinese flavours in Ba Ban restaurant.
Like the Mandarin, the W is right on Shatti beach with restaurants and a small mall closeby. In the evenings you could also walk to the Royal Opera House and explore its highend shopping arcade.
Five star Muscat hotels for families
Parents who enjoy a bit of luxury during their family holiday need not miss out in Muscat. The city offers various luxury hotels that have the family market in mind.
Here are a few of our favourites:
InterContinential Muscat

The InterContinental Muscat takes a more classic five-star approach: consistently well-regarded for value among upscale properties in the city, with a strong pool and garden experience including a playground, tennis courts and indoor games area for older kids. It also has flexible room configurations that work well for families.
Shatti beach, where you’ll find sand and play areas, is a short walk away. Drop into KAIA cafe on the seafront for ice creams, cake and coffee or D’Arcy’s Kitchen for pancakes.
This is also a perfectly positioned hotel for sightseeing in Muscat with the Royal Opera House a short walk away and attractions like Muttrah and the Grand Mosque a 15 to 20 minute taxi ride.
Hilton Al Bandar and DoubleTree by Hilton Muscat

The Hilton operates two family-friendly hotels side-by-side in the dramatic location of Barr Al Jissah: Al Bandar and Al Waha DoubleTree by Hilton, which cater to slightly different budgets within the luxury range.
Read my review of staying at the Al Waha hotel.
The resort is carved into a protected bay, with multiple pools, a lazy river, a large private beach where turtles nest, water sports, and a dedicated kids’ pool with slides.
For families, this is the standout choice on the coastal belt: the beach location, kids club, and range of dining options across the site make it as practical as it is beautiful. The Al Waha Hotel also has connecting family rooms.
Drive time to Muttrah Souq is around 10 to 15 minutes, making day trips into Muscat’s heritage sites straightforward but you will need a car or taxi.
JW Marriott Muscat
If being beside the sea isn’t high on your priorities list then I would recommend taking a look at JW Marriott Muscat. This is one of my favourite hotels in Muscat with excellent dining options, a lovely small pool with paddling area for young children, a kids club and family rooms.
It’s located less than 15 minutes from the airport and right next to Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre which is a venue for various family events over the winter months. Keep an eye out for activities happening there during the Muscat Nights Festival each January.
Kempinski

Like its neighbour the St. Regis, the Kempinski sits on the seafront in Al Mouj. It has access to the public beach with loungers reserved for guests as well as a spa and pools. Inside you’ll find a bowling alley, 11 places to eat and a kids club.
Even better news form families is that you can choose between staying in a traditional hotel room or one of the 77 seafront apartments and villas which come with up to three bedrooms.
If you’re into football you may also be interested to know that the German team chose to stay here during training for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The best time to book luxury stays in Muscat

Pricing for Muscat’s luxury hotels is based on seasonal demand. High season typically runs from October to February, with peak demand concentrated in December and January when UK and European travellers head to Oman for winter sun.
Expect lower humidity and comfortable temperatures during these months. There might even be rain.
Summer (June to August) brings significant price drops across the board, but also temperatures frequently reaching 38 to 42°C. Budget-conscious guests may get a bargain but will also find most of their time is spent in the pool or air conditioning.
It’s also worth mentioning that the summer is when a lot of hotels carryout routine maintenance which means dining options may be unavailable. Some activities like kids clubs may not operate.
Shoulder months, particularly March and April, offer the most underrated combination of value and weather in Muscat. Humidity remains low, temperatures are comfortable, and rates sit noticeably below peak. If your dates are flexible, March and April are the sweet spot most people overlook.

Other dates to keep in mind are Ramadan. During Ramadan and dates around the two Eid holidays there may be limits on the sale of alcohol in hotels and changes to dining experiences during daylight hours.
Hotels will cater for guests who are not fasting during Ramadan, but this may be different to outside the Holy Month. Once the sun has set most luxury hotels offer lavish Iftar buffets (the meal that breaks the fast) to hotel residents and outside guests. These evenings can be busy, but the food will be excellent.
Expect higher prices at Christmas and New Year when the price of gala dinners are automatically added to rates for luxury hotels.

Making your final choice

Muscat’s upscale accommodation scene may not be as well known as in neighbouring Dubai, but it is still operating at a world-class level. The architecture is dramatic, the service standards are high, and the range of settings, from mountain-backed private beaches to marina-front contemporary resorts, gives you real options regardless of your travel style.
The key is anchoring your choice to how you actually want to spend your time in Muscat and who you are travelling with, rather than simply choosing the most famous name.
Whatever combination of scenery, dining, and activity you’re after, the luxury hotels in Muscat all excel in their own way.
